Our New Hampshire Home: Guest Room Reveal

I swear, by the time I write about a room reveal, we’ve moved on to the next one! (Truthfully, I’ve just been slacking on these posts..)

Our guest room is complete! It was a smaller project, square footage wise, than our family room but a slightly more complicated task because we wanted to ditch the dreaded popcorn ceilings.

Rather than scraping and due to the shape of the room, we decided to hang new sheets of drywall. I didn’t know this was an option, but Ryan assured me, it was our best option. A lot of screws later… we had smooth ceilings!

The process of adding new drywall is simple in theory. First, you hang and screw new sheets. Then, you tape the seams and mud over them before sanding and priming the ceilings. Finally, you add paint.

We found that it was easiest to mud over seams that were even and had a minimal gap. We also found that we needed to plaster spots multiple times. The sanding got very messy and a bit aggravating, but the primer and ceiling paint are forgiving.

There are so many little things you can do to make a room so much better. Hanging puck lights and a ceiling fan are great, but simply switching out old outlets and light switches makes a world of difference!

We have decided that we are going to paint all rooms our standard Cottage White paint with an off white trim. If you’re interested in specific paint suggestions, check out our family room reveal.

After completing the ceilings, the rest of the room felt like a breeze. Paint the walls, prime and paint the trim, spray the baseboard heaters and clean the space. We’re sticking with the old carpets, for now.

It’s so nice to have a space for guests to enjoy when they’re visiting. As I shared above, we’ve actually started on the master recently and this time, we’re scraping the popcorn ceilings. Let me tell you, it’s been an adventure.

I can’t say that remodeling a home is my favorite thing in the world, but it has been really enjoyable so far. I never knew so much went into it, but it’s nice to see the results after and think “huh, I did that!”
