Book 24: Hidden Figures

One of my goals for 2020 is to read more. What better way than to commit to reading one book a week? 52 books in 52 weeks and I’ll be sharing every single one on the blog, every Sunday. Check in for my latest reads and recommendations.

Loved the movie and really, really enjoyed reading the book.

What a great, monumental story about four incredible black women (Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden) who contributed so much to the space program.

Even if you’ve seen the movie, the book is well worth the read for the additional details provided, the extended insight into the realities of Virginia and the experiences these women had at Langley, during their time. I do find, however, that the book did not connect me to the characters in as strong a way as the movie did. That’s fairly common in my experience, though.

Everyone loves space exploration. It’s always my fifth graders’ favorite unit in science. You’ll love this story, taking place behind the scenes, but no less exciting.
