Book 12: The Witch Elm

One of my goals for 2020 is to read more. What better way than to commit to reading one book a week? 52 books in 52 weeks and I’ll be sharing every single one on the blog, every Sunday. Check in for my latest reads and recommendations.

Tana French is hands down my favorite mystery author. Her stories are complex, incredibly well written, and challenging for the reader. She doesn’t write mystery novels you can just pick up and finish in one sitting. However, the intricacies of the text and plot she creates are astounding.

“The Witch Elm” was so psychologically jarring, I needed a bit of time after finishing it to recover. I love that French combined a good, old fashioned mystery with a complicated, family backstory. Furthermore, her characters are intensely flawed and written in a way that brings them right off the page.

I was lucky that the week off from school gave me the perfect opportunity to fully sit and focus on this novel. If you’re looking for something to engage a large portion of available time, this book comes highly recommended.
