Book 11: The Boys in the Boat

One of my goals for 2020 is to read more. What better way than to commit to reading one book a week? 52 books in 52 weeks and I’ll be sharing every single one on the blog, every Sunday. Check in for my latest reads and recommendations.

The Boys in the Boat came highly recommended from Ryan’s father and it was a great read this week. With all the chaos currently happening in our world, it was interesting to go back in time, into a moment in history when things were far from normal in America. With that, I gained a little needed perspective. This was a great story with a huge dose of historical context.

First, this book is very well written. If you know nothing about crew (me a week ago!) you’re about to learn a lot. However, the author is clearly passionate about the topic and I believe that truly helps you learn. There is so much technicality and skill required in rowing and the author really makes you understand that.

This is a denser book and not a blow through it in a couple hours, but it’s well worth the read. If you have a bit of time (and now, it seems like a lot of us do) I suggest you give it a chance!
