52 Books in 52 Weeks: Girl, Wash Your Face

One of my goals for 2020 is to read more. What better way than to commit to reading one book a week? 52 books in 52 weeks and I’ll be sharing every single one on the blog, every Sunday. Check in for my latest reads and recommendations.

Boy, am I glad that Girl, Wash Your Face was my first read of this year. I may be jumping on the bandwagon a little late but wow, I loved this book.

Ryan’s mom passed it on to me after reading and liking it and I was excited. I had heard about Rachel Hollis and seen this book in stores, I just never had the chance to pick it up. But, a good motivational read is always the way to start the year.

Rachel Hollis pulls apart the lies that she’s been told, the lies that she’s put stake in during her life, in a relatable, comical, and downright touching manner. She had me questioning how often I break promises to myself while also inspiring me to run a marathon and start a company. For a quick read, her text holds a lot of substance.

My favorite chapter in GWYF was definitely Chapter 2. The Lie: I’ll Start Tomorrow. Maybe it’s because I was reading this book at the start of the year, but the chapter really hit home. Likewise, Chapter 16. The Lie: I Can’t Tell the Truth had me raging on my couch, even though I have no personal connection to what Hollis experiences in the chapter.

If you’re looking for an engaging, thoughtful read, this is the one for you. I feel that there are parts of it that can speak to anyone. And if you feel ready to change your world afterwards, I’ve learned there’s no better time than now.
