Playlist .04

I’m ready for a summer of dirt road, no GPS, trying to find your Airbnb in the pitch black adventures. Those adventures where you say “you can’t possibly fit that in the trunk” and “let’s see if the car makes it.” Those adventures where a good soundtrack is a necessity. Playlist .04 was compiled with both highways and backroads in mind. The track “Place We Were Made” by Maisie Peters brings me back to my hometown, while “People Need a Melody” by The Head and the Heart is a bit of a punch to the gut in its honesty. Hollow…

Best Summer Events on Aquidneck Island

It’s the first day of summer and I couldn’t be more excited. School is out, the weekend forecast looks amazing, and my calendar is booked up with adventures and old friends. Most days, I find that I’m racking my brain for things to do in the area. That being said, I’ve complied a list of summer events on Aquidneck Island that I love attending. If you’re visiting, or a local looking for a staycation, these are definitely worth your time. Newport International Polo Series I’ve been attending Newport Polo since I was a little kid. We used to tailgate in…

Postcards From Mount Washington

We started out the month of June with something that was a bit out of my comfort zone. I’ve been doing that more lately- trying things I haven’t ever done and taking chances on things that are a bit different from what I’m used to. I’m happy to report that so far, the results have been pretty great. Ryan and I will be doing a summer hike with his family up in Maine this July, so in preparation, we decided we needed to hike a real mountain. Correction, I needed to hike a real mountain (see the fact that I…

Garden Update

Hey everyone, look at our perfect garden! … not. Although, I do have to say that as a first attempt, this garden is above and beyond what I imagined it would be. It is currently blooming bright, green, and healthy while it drinks up more water than I can keep up with. Also on the ‘can’t keep up with’ front, the weeds are killer. Literally- I’m almost certain they were choking out some of the plants at the roots before I gave some serious TLC last week. So, what’s been our greatest success? Lettuce and radishes.. who knew. We had…

Caitlin’s Kitchen: Pizza

Ryan and I observe Pizza Friday almost every Friday night to celebrate the end of the work week. It’s a fun tradition that gives us the opportunity to unwind and cook together. I joke that we seem like such ‘old people,’ as I think back on a time in my life when Friday night was the night to go out. The reality at the end of the week, however, is that we’re exhausted. Most of the time, a pizza, some wine, and a movie is the most favorable option. When it comes to pizza, we try to mix it up.…

The Best Outdoor Spaces on Aquidneck Island

Sometimes, if I’m ever feeling jealous of the mountains up North or the canyons out West, I take myself to the beach. Aquidneck Island has some of the most beautiful spots in the world, in my opinion. Most days, I’m walking around saying to myself- wow, we live here. As the weather warms and we begin spending more time outside, I’ve been compiling a list of my favorite outdoor spaces on Aquidneck Island. Weather you’re looking to hike (more like walk) or run, picnic or read, there are plenty of locations for your enjoyment. The Norman Bird Sanctuary I’ve written…
