College 101: The Four Friends Everyone Needs
In a few days I’ll be moving out of my college dorm room for the last time. Because of this, all the feelings are starting to set in. I’m getting a little too sentimental for my own good.
The four girls who have gotten me through these past four years are the inspiration for this post. Somewhere along the way, these friends turned into family. I go to them with my deepest secrets and in moments of great need. I will never understand how we could have been paired together randomly and come together so perfectly. Puzzle pieces fitting into the spaces of our lives we needed to fill.
I truly believe that these will be the people who, for the rest of my life, will see me through the big moments and the small ones. That being said, I wanted to write a post, noting the things about each of them that I believe everyone should search for in a friendship. They’ll know who is who. These are the four friends that everyone needs in their life.
The One Who With the Quick Wit // Maybe it’s with a sarcastic jab. Maybe it’s a problem solving solution, or a piece of advice you didn’t know you needed. Having a friend with a quick wit can save you in a number of situations. This is the friend who tells you how it is and who makes you laugh. Someone who always has your back and is more brilliant than they know. The times you’ll spend together and the conversations you’ll share will stay with you for the rest of your life.
The One Who Always Sees the Best in People // Sometimes it’s mistaken as naiveté. However, I truly believe that everyone needs that one friend who sees the good in others, unconditionally. This friend is so important because they remind you to have faith and to trust. Furthermore, they’ll always see the best in you, even if you can’t. We often go through this world with our guard up, trying to anticipate a situation or a reaction before it has occurred. However, you should consider changing your mindset. With the help of someone who’s got it down, you never know what could happen.
The One Who Challenges You // Not all friendships are easy. However, sometimes the most valuable ones are the ones you have to work for. You butt heads, you argue, and you get frustrated sometimes. However, in the end, you two know you’ll work it out. You’re there for each other, you’d kill for one another, and you know that the good times will always outweigh the challenging ones. This is the friendship you’ll look back and be proudest of.
The One Who is Your Opposite // Have you heard that saying, opposites attract? Well, it’s true, and not only in romantic relationships. This friend is the lightning to your thunder and the Brooke to your Peyton. (One Tree Hill anyone?) They’ll probably see things a little differently than you do. However, they’ll open your eyes up to a world of new perspective. When they’re down, you pull them up and when you get a little too high, they bring you right back down to Earth. They’re the friend who helps you grow over the years, changing you for the better.
I will always consider myself incredibly lucky to have these people in my life. They’ve changed me in more ways than they know. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.
