Simple Holiday Decor
I love decorating for the holidays. While my suitemates and I always go a little crazy in the dorm, I can’t wait til the day I have my own home- somewhere I can deck the halls and drape lights from floor to ceiling. However, I believe that sometimes the simplest decor is the best decor. Below I’ve compiled a list of my top six elements for simple holiday decor.
Greenery and garlands are perfect for draping over railings and on tables. If you get one main piece, you can often forage for other plants and branches in your area. Adding berries, pinecones, and other details lets you personalize things without going overboard, and brings great, natural scents into your home. There’s nothing like bringing a little bit of the outdoors in.
TWO// Dried Oranges
I’ve only recently come across this strategy for decor. However, drying oranges is simple (bake them at a low temp for a few hours) and provides something incredibly beautiful that you can add to garlands, trees, windows, or bowls on tables. They’ll make your house smell like citrus all month and add a pretty little element to all your holiday decorations.
The Christmas tree is the quintessential element of Christmas decoration in my mind. I’ve been seeing so many neat ways of ‘trimming the tree’ on Pinterest lately: flowers, tinsel, color pallets, handmade ornaments, etc. I think it’s great to make them look natural and rustic or shiny and sparkly. And don’t forget about the tree skirt (or basket) to complete the scene!
Baubles are a fun decoration, not only for your tree, but for all different parts of your home. Hang them from windows, doorways, or even the ceiling and let them sparkle and shine in the light.
Wreaths are often more of an outdoor decor, but if you’ve got a large picture window in your home, hanging a wreath is an easy way to make your space feel festive. In the future I will be hanging one on my front door, always.
This one is my favorite. I am such a big fan of Christmas lights. Personally, I think icicle lights look the best, I’m not crazy about the big colorful bulbs, and create such a wonderful ambiance in a home. They’re perfect to have on during an evening in watching movies or relaxing.
