20 Things in 20 Years

Yesterday I turned 20 years old, and everyone keeps asking me if I feel different. I may not feel older, may not recognize a difference between being a teenager and an adult, but I’m highly aware of how much time has already passed in my life. That being said, I compiled this short list of 20 things that I have learned in my 20 years.

  1. It feels good to do good things for other people.
  2. You should always eat dessert first.
  3. If your family seems crazy, then you’re just as bad.
  4. Stick with places and people that make you happy.
  5. You can never say thank you enough.
  6. You can apologize for a mistake.
  7. Grab everything: get everything you can out of life.
  8. Sometimes it’s okay to say no.
  9. Be straight forward and honest.
  10. You should always give people chances.
  11. Try not to let the little things get you down.
  12. Grades, tests, and paychecks do not determine who you are.
  13. Music fixes everything. Live music is even better.
  14. Things in life happen for a reason. Trust the process.
  15. You can choose to see the good in people.
  16. You should never bring up politics at the dinner table.
  17. Movies are always worth watching.
  18. If you have a hobby, nurture it. Great things don’t always happen fast.
  19. If you have someone you love, fight for them, and always keep them safe.
  20. Embrace that there is still so much more to learn and keep your heart open to all the world has to teach you.
